How To Outwork Self-Doubt & Build Confidence
Trick Your Brain Into Backing You

>5min read
You don’t have a confidence problem.
You have a “break tiny promises to yourself every day and then wonder why you feel like a fraud” problem.
Buying another motivational book won’t fix it.
Watching a hype video won’t fix it.
Here’s what actually works:
Keep one ridiculously tiny promise to yourself today.
And upgrade your confidence.. over and over again for tomorrow.
Overview
The “Success = More Success” Loop:
➡️ Reward Response:
Completing a goal activates the brain’s reward system, specifically the ventral striatum and the prefrontal cortex which boosts motivation for future tasks. (1)
➡️ Self-Efficacy Circuit:
Repeated successes increase your belief in your ability to handle challenges. This is a well-documented phenomenon in psychology: higher self-efficacy predicts greater resilience and willingness to tackle harder goals. (2)
➡️ Memory & Reinforcement:
Reflection activates the hippocampus and strengthens synaptic connections related to the completed behavior. Reviewing your daily wins locks these neural patterns in place, improving habit formation and future goal-setting accuracy. (3)
When you break promises to yourself, you wire the opposite pattern. More doubt, more hesitation, less action. Keeping daily micro-promises flips the switch back in your favor.

What ‘IF’..? Challenge
Confidence isn’t some pep talk or hype video.
It’s a bank account.
Every small promise you keep is a deposit.
The bigger the balance, the bigger the risks you can take.. and win!
How to Build It (Daily Ritual):
1️⃣ Write Down Simple Daily Wins
Each morning, grab a sticky note or open Notes.
List 3 tiny goals for today:
Email that one client back.
Do 10 push-ups.
Drink 2 liters of water.
These should feel too easy to fail.
Low friction = quick evidence = neural win.
2️⃣ Level Up Gradually
Once you keep these micro-promises for a week, raise the bar:
Swap easy tasks for slightly uncomfortable ones.
Tackle that hard conversation.
Make that risky pitch.
Try the workout you’ve been avoiding.
Tiny wins → moderate wins → real confidence.
3️⃣ Daily Reflection & Reinforcement
Before bed, do a quick check:
What promises did I keep today?
Where did I bail? Why?
How did keeping my word feel?
Write it down or say it out loud.
Your brain locks in this pattern trust me, or rather, trust you.
Consistency makes or breaks this loop.
